School Games Mark

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Gold Mark for the 2024/25 Academic Year. This marks an incredible 4 consecutive years that the school have achieved this award.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With an exceptional amount of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Competitions

Edgewood Primary School proudly participates in the Next Level Games, giving children across the school the chance to represent Edgewood in a fun yet competitive environment against other local schools.

These events help pupils build teamwork, confidence and sporting resilience as they showcase their developing skills.

Alongside this, we work closely with the Ashfield School Sports Partnership and our School Games Organiser to ensure a wide range of competitive opportunities throughout the year. This includes entering inclusive sports festivals designed to involve pupils of all abilities, ensuring that every child has the chance to take part, feel valued and celebrate their achievements in sport.

After School Clubs

At Edgewood Primary School, we offer a wide range of after-school sports clubs that ensure every child has the chance to get active and enjoy physical activity.

These clubs are carefully designed to bridge the gender gap, promoting equal opportunities across all year groups. Children can take part in sports such as football, basketball, gymnastics, dance and multi-skills, encouraging them to try new activities and develop confidence.

We ensure that every club is inclusive and welcoming, so pupils feel empowered to participate regardless of experience or ability. Our sports clubs support healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and a positive sporting culture throughout the school.

Swimming

Next Level Sports partners with Elite Swimming to bring high-quality swimming lessons directly to our school via a fully equipped, heated pop-up pool installed on-site.

This “Pools to Schools” programme eliminates the need for travel, reduces disruption to class time and cuts transport costs — making swimming lessons more accessible for all pupils.

With qualified instructors and lifeguards running small-group sessions, each child receives focused, intensive teaching that helps them build essential water-safety skills and reach targets such as swimming 25 metres.

By offering swimming at school, we remove barriers like transport, scheduling and cost, ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to learn in a safe, supportive environment.
