At Edgewood believe that uniforms help to foster our sense of community identity, and help to reduce the likelihood of children becoming aware of differences in wealth and background. All students are expected to wear the school uniform.
Items have been chosen to ensure that they are widely available from supermarkets and other shops, so ensuring minimal costs for parents.
The uniform for all students should be selected from the following:
Polo shirts and sweaters with the school logo are available to purchase from Hucknall Sports, however, any white shirt and red jumper are acceptable.
Second hand uniform can often be found in the many charity shops in Hucknall.
As we are a primary school, we do not allow the wearing of make-up or nail varnish. If these are used outside of school, please ensure that they are removed before school returns.
Ordinarily, jewellery is not appropriate for school. Watches and small stud earrings are permitted, although must be removed for P.E. lessons. Consequently, if considering having your child’s ears pierced, please do so at the start of the summer holiday, so that they are able to remove them by the start of term.
Please note that staff are not permitted to remove studs and earrings so if your child cannot remove them themselves they will not be able to participate in PE.

For swimming lessons, girls should wear a swimming costume (not bikini), while boys should wear trunks or swim shorts (not long shorts).
Goggles are not encouraged by the local authority, although if parents wish for their child to wear goggles, they can inform the school using the form which is sent home with swimming letters.
Please ensure that all items of clothing brought to school are clearly labelled with your child’s name. It is impossible for us to trace the owner of individual items if items are not named.
All staff share the responsibility for instilling high expectations regarding uniform. The expectation is that uniform will be worn smartly and with pride.
For older students (KS2) this includes wearing shirts/polo shirts tucked in when around the school, and sweaters and cardigans worn appropriately (i.e. not around waists). This standard will be modelled for younger children, and encouraged from them as they take increasing responsibility for their own appearance.
Nail varnish and make-up are not permitted. Similarly, while we do not specify in detail about hair styles, it is expected that these will be suitable for school. Hair should be of natural colour, and with no elaborate shaven markings or designs.
Where students arrive in school not in keeping with the uniform policy, they will be reminded of the school rules and asked to ensure that it is rectified by the following school day. If necessary the following day, parents will be contacted to remind them of the policy and ask for their support in ensuring that the correct uniform is worn.
The behaviour policy is not applied for matters relating to uniform, unless the matter is one of deliberate disregard for the rules of the school. We take great care to ensure that children are not punished or made to feel uncomfortable because of matters outside their control, including family finances.
In the case of missing PE kit, where children are unable safely to take part in activities, they will instead be directed to observe and support the PE lesson, making notes and giving feedback to peers on performance and skills. Again all staff are to follow this up with parents when required to ensure it is not repeated.
